Remember!!

  • Ask yourself :

"What is the writer talking about?"

"What is the author trying to tell me?"

What are the key words in the text?

Ask yourself   "Can I understand the text without looking up the words in the dictionary?"

Not many centuries ago, all fabrics were spun and woven by hand.  It was slow work, so cloth was expensive.  It was not until the 1700s that cloth could be woven by machines so that the average person could afford to buy good quality clothing.

Like other types of cloth, wool is now made entirely by machines in most modern countries.  However, in a few places, such as the islands of Hebrides off Scotland, wool is still woven by hand in tiny cottages.  The Hebrides are famous for their wool products.  The wool from the islands' own sheep is used to make some of the cloth.  Some is made from wool brought over from the mainland.
