Fall 2008 Alice Bradley '11/ Sam Welch '10 (programmer- former position that included organizing all programming for the SLC- i.e. WND, workshops, fun events, etc.)
Matt Cloyd '11 (programmer) Job In General Plan, organize and put on events that enhance the mission of the SLC within the house, the campus and the community. Come up with ways to expand the
SLC’s outreach to the rest of campus and community (e.g. co-sponsoring events).Organize at least two workshops,
field trips and/or lectures per term. What I Did Some events from Fall '08:
Grand Opening Event
Guest Speaker Tom Wessels,
Speeches by President Wright and Kathy Lambert, local snacks, reception
and tour of the house following speeches, invite-only local dinner to
finish.
Workshops
Once this term, Scott
Stokoe helped to put on a workshop aimed at helping students create
their own worm bins. There is much potential to do more with this here.
Other
Lunches scheduled with
professors and their classes, tours organized for visiting groups, and
special speaker receptions in the kitchen (Terry Tempest Williams)Useful Resources
Kathy Lambert-Sustainability Coordinator
Mary Ella-Zietz/ Ann Betters-Our contacts in the Provost's Office
Laura Minichiello-Conferences and Special Events

Things We Wish We Had Known
THINK about the outcome from each event planned: What will be
changed because of this? How much of an effect will this have on the
students/campus/community? Is there any way to make those changes more
pronounced?
Direction We Envision
We need to hold MORE WORKSHOPS. They are
probably the most bang-for-your-buck as far as instituting change, and
will make for the most useful events. (The idea was thrown out there to
combine the WND's and workshops-possibly alternating every other week.
Ie: One week a professor lectures to the group, the next a member of
the community shows them how to insulate windows.) |
