The Barrington Task Force and the Porstmouth Task Force are against the decriminalization law that is currently being introduced to Rhode Island. Massachusetts passed this law last year which states that if you are caught with an ounce of marijuana, you will get a fine, no jail time, or being arrested. What people don’t understand is how this negatively encourages adolescents to feel like they can get away with marijuana use in general. What people tend to forget is how it is an addicting drug and that even though it seems harmless, more teenagers enter rehab for marijuana addiction every year than any other illegal drug. People have also come to the conclusion that it is ok to drive high even though they aren’t aware of how it affects concentration, perception, coordination, and reaction time (info from freevibe.com) The task force is asking for the community’s support in opposing the decriminalization of marijuana. They want the state to be safer, and the support to make sure prevention comes into play. *Original letter by Kathleen Sullivan
