Achievement Badges

First Steps

Achievement badges are highly individual. Some are readily done by new cubs at home and lead to a culture of success for the cub. My suggestions of badges for a new cub to attempt are:
  • pets
  • gardener
  • cook
  • photographer
  • traveller
  • music
The requirements for all the achievement badges are in the cubs yellow book.

I encourage all cubs to start an exercise book to list the badges they are undertaking, including writing in the requirements (in summary form) and the information they have gathered, and the activities to complete the badge. They then bring this to cubs one night to have the badge assessed.

You can ask other adults for a note to state that the cub has fulfilled certain activities. For example, a sports coach could state that the cub has completed a term of sport. However we usually don't need this supporting documentation, as we try and keep it very achievable for cubs, without adding too much work on the parents.

Categories

Achievement Badges are categorised into four streams. These streams are only important for the Grey Wolf Award, where a cub needs one level two badge from each category. Please see the grey wolf pathway for an explanation of the stream requirements for the grey wolf award.

Badge Resources

A collection of resources for badges are found in the file cabinet here.

A full list of badges and requirements, including very handy sheets showing the requirements in a form, can be found at vicscouts.
