Twinning to Promote Catholic Social Teaching

 Twinning History

Welcome to the St. John Neumann - Niño Jesus website.  The two Oblates of St. Francis de Sales parishes began twinning in 2010 to help each parish to grow spiritually and promote Catholic Social Teaching.  (To learn about twinning, please click on "What is Twinning" in the Menu on the left .)  The Niño Jesus Ministry, which is part of  St. John Neumann's Social Justice Ministry, is responsible for developing, maintaining, and expanding the parish's twinning effort.  The Niño Jesus Ministry so far has undertaken three projects--scholarships for children in the Niño Jesus parish, expansion of the parish's medical clinic, and completion of a new kitchen.

Scholarships - Thanks to the generosity of parishioners, St. John Neumann provides scholarships for more than 185 Niño Jesus students during the May-February Ecuadorean school year.  Many of the scholarship students live on the outskirts of the parish in an area serviced by the John the Baptist chapel.  It is a squatters neighborhood that Fr. Alberto--the former pastor--called "the belt of misery."

Construction Projects - After a presentation in 2010 by Fr. Alberto, the St. John Neumann Social Justice Ministry agreed to use money raised from the 2010  parish car raffle to fund a medical clinic that would serve Niño Jesus  parishioners.  The clinic was finished in September 2010.  Please go to Photo Gallery to see photos of construction from start to end.  Fr. Alberto hired  construction workers who were members of  the Niño Jesus Parish to build the clinic to help hold down costs and provide income for  local families.

The Social Justice Committee voted to use the proceeds remaining from the 2010 raffle to help fund the completion of a food kitchen for school children and the elderly in the Niño Jesus Parish.  During a visit to St. John Neumann last year, Fr. Luis--the new pastor of Niño Jesus--provided plans and cost estimates for the project.

The Niño Jesus Ministry will be working with Fr. Luis in the coming months to decide on future projects such as the construction of a day care center.

Kitchen Project

The new kitchen was dedicated on April 9th.  The proceeds remaining from the 2010 Car Raffle and a generous bequest from a SJN parishioner funded the project.  Photos of the project that can be viewed by clicking on "Photo Gallery".
