Short Term Medical Missions
The website about the thesis

In July 2004 I commenced work on a thesis for my Master's degree in Development Studies at Masssey University in Palmerston North, New Zealand.  In February 2006, after 3 months fieldwork, a year of writing, a baby and a move to another city I finally submitted the thesis.

The thesis was titled "An exploration of the role of Short Term Medical Missions in Honduras". While most New Zealanders are unfamiliar with the concept of Medical Missions, the research generated a lot of interest in Latin America and in the U.S. where many teams originate.   This website has been designed in response to that interest, and in order to provide feedback to the many individuals and organisations who assisted me.

Please use the links on the left to access the abstract  and the conclusion, both publicly available.  If you would like to read the full thesis then please contact me and I will email you the password for the pdf file.

I have also recently written an article on religion and medical missions which was published in Just Change, a magazine produced for the New Zealand Development community (You will need to scroll down to the last page of the magazine to find the article).

If you are interested in finding out more about Medical Missions, or where I have been studying, please check the links page.

Finally, I have created a Guestbook for you to provide feedback on the thesis and to share your ideas about Medical Missions.  I'd love to hear what you think!
