Students are admitted into the SJBS Accelerated Math Program based on the following criteria: teacher recommendation, classroom performance, overall behavior, standardized testing results, student effort, attendance and parental support.

Our Accelerated Math students consistently place in Honors classes or Accelerated Math programs in both parochial and public high schools.  Last year’s graduates included a recipient of the Neumann Scholarship to Lansdale Catholic High School.  This year our eighth graders qualified to compete and received  scholarships offered by local parochial high schools.

Typically, students are identified by the fourth or fifth grade for inclusion in our program.  In order to meet the needs of all students, our teachers continually evaluate each individual, and students may be placed in the program up until September of their 8th grade year.  We have also included exceptional students  as early as second grade.  This year our students’ levels range from fourth grade Math to Algebra 2.

Our program emphasizes academic independence, collaborative group work, responsibility, mathematical rigor and real world applications.  Our students understand and value the opportunities made possible by this program and continually seek to expand their knowledge and understanding of Mathematics.
