I can confirm that Satyajit Gill & Rajiv Anand both went to AFMC, became docs and joined the defence services. Gill in the Army and Rajiv in the Air Force. Subsequently Rajiv Anand left the services and has been in practising in Delhi. I am in regular touch with him and have asked him to send me his email for the website but he is a lazy bugger! Will try him again.

Carl I suspect you have hidden database of the guys somewhere. I can recall being in touch with Peter Noronha sometime in 98/99 - he was in Chicago working at EDS if I'm not mistaken - and maybe it was you who put us in touch. Can't seem to track him down now. Clues, anyone else?
Also, here are a few from 74 ISC who have not shown up yet:
- Jagdish Rao - was in Bangalore & into construction, this is early 90's
- Clyde Murthy - picking up on Ian's mail, he does seem to be in Singapore (courtesy Google), but no sign of an email
- Satyajit Gill - was in AFMC Pune, think he is now in AIMS Delhi
We seem to be stuck with locating guys, so if we can track these few down, we've got some momemtum going & can find a few more. Come on guys & thanks Carl. Derek

Hi Guys,
Yeah, Sandeep was a lively, fun guy. I remember a trip with him to a nearby town for some inter-college football tournament. We made the Josephs Commerce College team by default 11 or so guys showed up for trials and not unexpectedly we got the boot in round one. Anyway, I remember Sandeep as being a perennially upbeat fellow.
Hissy fit (over pissy trunks), hunger pangs, pussyfooting in the kitchen, foraging, potato coup. ..terrific images, great days Karan! I was also reminded of your infatuation with some hindi actress (Zeenat Aman?). As I recall, you were either a border-line virtual stalker or had all the makings of one during that phase.
Jake, great to hear youve become a high flying legal eagle. Remember us falling asleep under Lukes very nose in the front bench of his geography class? He was actually amused in that particular instance, fortunately!
Im drawing a complete blank re. meeting up with you guys in Goa, Derek (and given your age, suspect a mix-up here), but I can well imagine the great time you all had. I venture to guess that the three Dmello brothers feat of graduating together from the same class is unprecedented in St. Josephs 150-year history and, if true, should go down in the schools annals as a first.
Hopefully, well hear from more folks about their own escapades and the like.
Shivram, was about to send this email and got yours about Bro. Calligarro. Amazing guy! Really sad.
All the best, Noel |

Sorry about the mistake about Br. Calligaro's accident. Guess I only got the news immediately after his accident and not his subsequent recovery. I would have loved to visit him on my trips to Bangalore if I had known he was at Museum Road. I used to visit St. Joseph's frequently as Fr. Cecil Saldanha(former Vice-Principal of St. Joseph's College) was my mother's brother. He passed away in 2000-2001.
Mario.

What is the difference between a brother, rector and father?
Thanks

Thanks for the update. It's beginning to ring a bell now.

Just to clarify/correct Marios mail on Br Calligaro: - Br Calligaro was in a car accident some years ago and suffered fractures on one or both his legs, the Brother who was with him died... - It was feared that Br C would never walk again but he recovered and was independently mobile (albeit a shuffle compared to his earlier brisk walk which made him among the top favourites for the Fathers Refectory Race every day!) - Br C stayed in the Jesuit quarters in the School premises...used to see him at the 7am mass most Sundays that I went for...

Hi all,
For those who do not know, Br. Calligaro was in charge of the Infirmary for the boarders. He used to dispense medicines before school started. Really good man. A few years ago he met with a car accident and had both his legs amputated. He was in Mount St. Joseph eversince. Was in Bangalore when it happened.
May he Rest in Peace.
Mario.

May he Rest in Peace. I remember how he looked after us when we fell sick and had to stay in the Infirmary. I still have a woollen scarf that he bought me when I needed it. Still in good condition. Anyway goodbye Br. Calligaro. Maybe we will meet up sometime when we come to Heaven or wherever we go after this life is over.
Mario.

Can you guys clue me in ? I can't for the life of me remember who Br.
Calligaro was ? Was he in charge of the boarding section ?
Ray

Rev. Bro. R. Calligaro, SJ, aged 95, passed away on Oct.20, 2008. May his soul rest in peace.
This is really sad news. Bro. Calligaro was such a caring person. There were some funny things he used to say, like if your stomach was upset, in his typical Italian accent he would say, “Boy, take a tablet and go to the bathroom.” But, he was our doctor, our nurse and sometimes our counselor, all in all, a great man. May God bless his soul. RIP Bro. Calligaro.
Regards to all,
Chris Pereira
-------------------
God bless him.
He will be well remembered.
He sewed my jeans
He stitched me up,
He mended my shoes
And comforted my bruised feet,
When in pain, in vain to him I went,
For when I fell, whether in hockey or ball,
He comforted me through tears and pain
And when I was all alone and cried,
I called ......Brother Calligaro
He was there....he came ..............and my pain went away.........
Rest in peace dear Brother Calligaro

Dudes
You guys are reminiscing about the Goa trip, so thought I’d add my 2 bit here. If I can recall that far back, it was Jakes, Karan, Brian, Chris, myself and maybe Mohan. And we bumped into Noel somewhere along the way, he had come separately. Almost half our Commerce batch was there. My abiding memory must be us trooping out of the guest house we were staying, Karan with beer bottle tucked safely under his arm! Ha ha. Great trip for sure, can’t recall though how the lot of us got together to make the trip in the first place.
Cheers

Hey guys,
The combination of the 150th Anniversary and the group email is working. Sudarshan Malpani dropped in at home this morning with his wife Sunita. Great catching up with him .
I was however shocked and saddened to hear that his brother Sandeep Malpani passed away suddenly just after our 150th Anniversary celebration. He was a fun guy and was in his usual form during our photo session for the 150th Anniv just last month. I couldn't believe it.
Karan , the reference to our Goa trip brings back great memories. Noel great to hear from you and the rest of the guys.
Jakes
Hi guys, I am quite bowled over by the reaction to the pics! I am really pleased that everyone enjoyed them and to be honest it is sheer luck that they weren't swept away in one of the spring-cleaning drives that our spouses tend to indulge in at times. ( eg.Why do you want to keep that smelly T-shirt for just because Kapil Dev wore it, etc etc). Any hoot good fortune and better sense prevailed but sadly those are the last of the Pic's from King Tut's Tomb. Great memory Derek as you were spot on about the missing names - now if only we were as good at remembering birthdays and our Wedding Anniversaries ! And Noel it is great to hear from you again man. I have some great memories of us trying to raid the kitchen for food and coming away triumphantly with a couple of half-boiled potatoes! Or the time I inadvertently "borrowed " your swimming trunks and you came to the pool and towered over me in a hissy fit. All good times bro! Hi Naresh great to hear from you man. I can understand how nostalgic you must have felt after seeing the pics. Most of us get a bit nostalgic especially about hair and physique - damned if I can figure out why! Besides I remember you couldn't quite pass a mirror without pausing to admire the reflection! Good to know some things haven't changed. Hi Jake glad you could join us. I wish we had taken the camera with us to Goa on the vacation right after school. Fantastic holiday and it was the first time we got to see naked women though we were too stunned by the enormity of the occasion to do much about it. But that trip to Goa is etched into the memory forever! Cheers & beers, Karan. |

Hi Noel, Karan and the rest of the gang,
Absolutely fantastic catching up with all of you. Amazing pictures. I had forgotten that Mohan had that hair style. He now maintains a dignified pepper and salt windswept look with whatever hair he has left.
The swimming team photo is really something. The way the guys are posing is highly suspect. Better watch out for any other pictures that Karan has hidden away for the past 38 years.
I am in Chennai, practising law, specialising in Intellectual Property Rights ( sounds good eh ! ) . Time is really going on. Seems that just a short while ago we were in school together and it doesn't seem like 38 years have gone by.
My wife, Achu and I have two kids, my son Siddharth ( 12 Standard ) and my daughter Nihara ( 9th Standard ).
If any of you guys pass through, give me a call and lets meet. In any event lets all plan for a get together some time.
Regards,
Jacob Kurian [jacobkurianxyz@gmail.com]
