Derek D'Mello
Hi all,
My update since school days - went to Loyola, Madras (with quite a few other Josephites) for degree, we also had a few others across town at IIT - we used to catch up with them at the annual IIT Mardi Gras, fun times as you can imagine. Then back to Bangalore to do my CA training (articles they called it, more like bonded labour). After which I ran my own practice, work took me regularly to Bombay & Goa where we had branches and I quite often ran into a few guys from school. I was for a number of years the OBA auditor & had the good fortune to work with Nr. Alvares, who showed me a thing or two about accounting - now he was a wise man, God bless his soul. I upped & left for New Zealand in 1993 & have been here since. I seriously tried my hand at working (in a largish CA firm), but the big bosses couldn't handle the way I carried on - doing things my own way & without waiting for their approval so I moved on to what I knew best (well actually the only thing I knew) & opened my own CA practice. I've been at it since & of late have been doing some work with Australian & Indian companies as well. On the personal front, I am married to Shirley & we have 3 girls, Taihli 8, Alisa 4 & Jordan just over 2 months. When I first arrived here, I was sure there were a few OB's, so I set out to track them down. Got a few guys together, but my first couple of attempts to organise a get together bombed spectacularly for whatever reason. However, lucky 3rd - we met up & have not looked back since. We have about 25 OB'S in NZ, most of whom are in Auckland where I live & we meet at least once a year, lately twice on St Joseph's Feast & OBA Day. Guys coming here - please do contact as we here are always on the lookout to meet OB's, especially classmates. I can only recall Sudarshan Malpani's brother came here some years ago. Very good place to visit, I can assure you.
I have to say it's been great hearing from our classmates & I've probably rambled on longer than I intended to. Anyways, to all our 74 ISC guys who have not 'checked in' - send in some news of what/why/where you guys are. And thanks to all who are driving this effort.
Cheers for now Derek D'Mello D D'Mello, Chartered Accountants P O Box 24005, Royal Oak, Auckland, New Zealand Tel: +64 9 634 5885 - Fax: +64 9 634 5883 Mob: +64 21 294 3642

Great to be in touch again – thanks to Carl’s forward and of course outstanding spade work by Leslie R, Johnny & Co.
To recap, I finished with Joseph’s Commerce in ’78, worked briefly in Bangalore and then Kuwait. Struck gold in ’86, maritally speaking, and got hitched to Laila (Carl’s cousin). We have two grown boys: Viren, 21 and Nick, 16.
In the aftermath of the first Gulf war and following a short stint in Muscat, we immigrated to the U.S. in ’93. We lived initially in New York and quickly learned to juggle full-time college with work, family, etc., later (in ’98) switching gears to the somewhat less hectic pace of Dallas, where we’ve since put down roots.
My Commerce batch mates may be surprised, even alarmed, to learn that in the long run I succumbed to fate and actually made a profession out of bean counting (accounting). Sports-wise, the odd basketball game and erratic exercise seem to keep me in about half-way decent shape.
Best wishes, Noel noelabreo@hotmail.com

I'm in Manhattan New York with Citigroup, and live in Rye Brook, Westchester, NY with my wife Geeta and daughter Diksha 16. My son Akshay, 19, is a sophomore at Cornell University Been in the US 8 years now, was in East Africa for 2 years, Bahrain and Dubai for 14 years, Manila for 2 years prior to that. India's still very much home, in spite of not having lived there for 26 years. Not in Bangalore as often as I used to be, since my parents moved to Delhi last year. Got goose bumps reading some of the names on the website, and seeing the pics…hey, does anyone have a scanned pic of the 1974 School cricket team?

I feel 16 again! Hope we can keep the news flowing... We moved to Paris from Dubai in the early part of this year. I am in Banking (a dirty word these days) working with BNP Paribas. So if anyone of you are in the area it would be great to meet. It would also be nice to see some more photos on the web page to see how gracefully we all have aged. There is one of me and my wife Melanie at our 25th anniversary in the Photo Gallery. As you can see I am still quite handsome! Cheers, Michael Pereira

Leslie Macedo here from down under! Great to see some of the names,...... a few of whom we have lost too. Wow, 35 years on!.
Well until very recently I have made contact with Deepak Varma. And suddenly, out of the shadows popped the past. Of course, in no way related to the pop we had in school; be it fizzy or in club swinging.
Well guys, great to know that there are a few of us still ticking. From our past, I have so far caught up with Colin D'Silva, Saila Rebello, Aloysius and Mario Monteiro, Chris Pereira, Leslie Roach, Joseph Alburque, Joseph and Bennett Angeline, Lawrence Saldhana...........and a few others via email.

I was in Kuwait from 1982 till a month after the invasion by Iraq. My family and I experienced some very anxious moments during our ‘escape’ to Bombay. I was in Dubai from 1992 to 1996, which is when I left for Canada. I was married till 1995, have a 19 year old daughter, Lisa, from that union, and remarried in 1997 to Christine, who is David and Luke deGa’s oldest sister. She studied at Sacred Hearts Convent across the street. She has 3 kids from her previous marriage and we have 3 grandkids. I work for Canada Revenue Agency which is the equivalent of the American IRS, basically, tax collections. But I enjoy every moment of it. Earlier this year, Leslie Roach, Leslie Macedo, Mario Monteiro and I had a mini reunion, along with our spouses. It was such a pleasant evening, drinks and dinner. After almost 35 years, during the course of the evening, it was revealed that the person who lit the fire-cracker during Fr. Hedwig’s last period, was Mario Monteiro. All these years I thought it was Leslie Macedo and Joseph Angeline. My home tel # is 905-712-4123, work # is 905-803-2231. Take care guys, all the very best cperei4123@rogers.com

Jennifer, my wife of 21 years and I have been blessed with a very satisfying and contented life. We live in Melbourne with our two boys Rohan (17) and Nikhil (15) who, needless to say, bring us immense joy and satisfaction. We left Bangalore in 1994 and migrated to Auckland (NZ). After enjoying that beautiful country for some 7 years the gypsy in me manifested itself again and we decided to move to Melbourne (Australia).
Jen works as a Dietitian in a local Hospital as I continue to be associated with the Hospitality Industry as I operate a small business of my own. Rohan is now at the business end of his school life with the all-important public exam looming large at the end of 2009. Academic pressure not being such an issue for Nikhil at the moment, he continues to enjoy his hectic sporting activities. At this stage in his life, he’d do whatever it takes to play a game and it comes as absolutely no surprise the he reminds me of a certain chap called Colin some 35 years ago.

Thanks for the link to the site - enjoyed going through it. It's a nice site dedicated to just 1973-1974 so that makes it all pretty familiar and graspable. I'm married to a Dutchess (joking, I mean a Dutch woman - Mieke). Our 3 kids are Ruben (14 years), Suzan (10) and Dagmar (8). I am working for Stork-Fokker (aircraft component manufacturer) since more than a year and before that for a company fabricating industrial aluminium melting furnaces and ancillary casting equipment. I'm usually very poor at corresponding but will try to keep this contact going.

Hi Guys,
My family consists of my first wife Sabrina and my wonderful son Dhruv (23 years old and currently working with JWT) and my charming daughter Alena (10 years old)!!!!. Mohan, please note that it is not only you who can have a big age gap between your kids!!. Alena keeps Sabrina and me young and energetic and for many more years to come I hope. After I passed out from school, I did my PUC and BA in St. Josephs Arts and Science College. During my six months holidays after the ICSE exams I started playing badminton and wonder of wonders was soon the Karnataka State Junior Badminton champion and for several years in the State men’s badminton team and a sparring partner for Prakash Padukone – India’s former world champion. Soon after graduating from College, I worked for a Company called Graphite India for a year and a half and followed by a long career with Brooke Bond as a tea and coffe taster, blender and buyer posted in quick succession in Calcutta, Coimbatore, Cochin, Siliguri, Guwahati and Bangalore. Brooke Bond was bought over by Unilever in the interim and I was pushed up the Corporate Ladder into General Management to head Hindustan Lever’s Garment Export Business in Chennai and subsequently their Marine Export Business in Chennai and Bangalore. In the end of 2007 I took early retirement as one of their Vice Presidents heading their Marine Profit Centre after 26 ½ years of selling my soul to the company store! I currently run my own Seafood Consultancy from Bangalore (well outside the Corporate rat race and pressures) and consult with 3 of the largest Seafood Exporters from India besides assisting several international companies source their Indian Seafood products. I am also a Director and have a stake in a Seafood Producing and Exporting factory in Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh).

I came to Delhi after school and graduated from Delhi University in Economics (which basically enables me to help my wife with her monthly budget - though she would hotly dispute this!) Subsequently became an entreprenuer by default as no one wanted to give me a job and started a garment business. I sold that after 15 years and became a work-out of home-Consultant officially, but I was really watching in wonder and awe as my daughter grew up. She is now almost 12 and a constant joy for me and my lovely wife. I play squash to try and stay in shape. I have now moved to Singapore and if any of you guys are passing thru it would be great to catch up over a drink! Mobile no - 84534495.
Keep up the great work and I have some delightful old black & whites for the website. Cheers, Karan Rajurkar
