2011 "A" Boys Provincial Basketball Championships Tournament Summary
The 2011 provincial tournament saw the return of Kelowna Christian to “A” basketball and they resumed where they left off capturing their 3rd title in 4 years. The Okanagan zone displayed their strength with Kelowna Christian, Similkameen, Immaculata, and St. Ann’s all finishing in the top 5. The tournament provided many highlight reel plays and intensely close finishes. The first semi-final featured Kelowna Christian versus Similkameen. Kelowna Christina defeated their zone rival 52 - 40 in a tightly contested battle. The other semi final was an intense back and forth battle between Immaculata and West Point Grey. West Point Grey held onto a 60 – 58 lead and secured their spot in the final versus Kelowna Christian. Similkameen won bronze medal match against Immaculata 65 – 55 lead by the great play of Clayton Gottfriedson and hot shooting of Ravi Dhaliwal. The final was a close match that eventually saw Kelowna Christian pull away in the 4th quarter. The Knights were led by the stellar play of their captain and tournament MVP Kai McGrath. The Knights lived up to their billing and captured the provincial title with a 73 - 50 victory. I |
