Welcome, Kindergarten Parents!
Music as a Kindergartener is a very exciting time. By the end of this year, your child should be able to find and keep a steady beat to any song he/she hears, understand the difference between his/her singing voice and his/her speaking voice, identify changes in tempo and dynamics, and identify sounds that are high and sounds that are low. The Kindergarten Circus Program was Thursday, April 1. The students were brilliant! Check out the picture section of the site to see our kiddos in action!
Final Three Classes
WEEK 1: We will continue discussing one and two sounds to a beat. The students will learn Bounce High, Bounce Low, and we will then discuss the rhythm to decide what sounds we heard. We will also listen to a piece called The Ball from Children's Games by George Bizet. After learning a song called Follow Me, I will assess the students at the end of the lesson by having them play the rhythm of the words as I play a steady beat on the drum. At this point in the year, we are working diligently to discern the difference between the steady beat of a song and the rhythm of the song.
WEEK 2: This week we will finish our current unit by finishing our discussion of dynamics--loud sounds and soft sounds. We will listen to Car Song, pretending to drive and ride in a car, and identify the levels of loud and soft. We will then listen to Little Blue Truck and identify verses that could be softer and discuss how the feeling of the song can be changed through dynamics. We apply this same concept to a poem entitled Taking Off. Lastly, we will learn The Wheels On the Bus, continuing to discuss the effect of dynamics on music. WEEK 3: For our final week of music, I will allow the students to pick their favorite lessons from the year to revisit for our last music class of the year. Note: Because of our 6 day rotation, the students will attend specials 4-5 times each six weeks. We will not see them on a weekly basis! |
