Recent and current projects / activities

I have just finished a three-year tour as Director of Teaching in the School, a role which encompasses responsibility for all taught undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered by the School.
In the past academic year, I got the chance to deliver not just one but two Inagural Lectures. The first was as a General Interest Seminar within the School in October 2008 and is available online via the School's GI podcast page.
In the second one in April 2009 (..the 'proper' one) I nearly put a dart through a very expensive projection screen: you can download the pdf and the audio from it below.

And no, they were not exactly the same lecture both times .....

JISC awarded us funding under their Learning and Teaching Innovation Grants Scheme for a project on evaluation and feedback from PRS questions in 2009. (More details on the e-learning site)

During July 2008 I undertook a Royal Society funded visiting fellowship to the Carl Wieman Science Education Initiative at UBC in Canada.

During 2007, I was heavily involved in the a project to survey the extent of research-teaching linkages in the Physical Sciences in Scotland, as a funded project that is part of the QAA Enhancement Theme.
