Silver Stampers first president, Irma Hunger pictured below left, wanted to start a rubber stamp club for members of the same age group, so she placed an ad in two stamping magazines in May, 1997. When membership reached about 20, Irma started a handwritten newsletter and in July 1997, the Silver Stampers Gazette was born. Over the years the club grew by word of mouth, seeing and talking to people at stamp conventions, craft fairs, stamp and scrapbooking classes. Lynn Rick(on the right), became the second president in January 2007 and began publishing a full color quarterly newsletter filled with pictures of members, winning cards from contests, tips, techniques, etc. Since our members are 50+, about one-third do not have computer access and the newsletter keeps everyone informed.
In addition to regular card exchanges, Silver Stampers has two Artist Trading Card (ATC) groups, a poem/quote card exhange every other month, a chat group on Yahoo, and some of our members enjoy sharing their talents and stamping for a cause. Members donate cards for military folks serving overseas, as well as the Humane Society, two veterans hospitals, and two nursing homes. Since we are all seniors, we also have an on-line prayer support group called the Silver Prayer Warriors.
Silver Stampers are all ability levels from beginners to professionals. Each member determines how active they would like to be in the club and stamp at their own comfort level. If you would like to join, please click on the membership info link under navigation. |
