Coach Banning's Biography
In the fall of 2000, Bob Banning became Silver Creek’s first boy’s head coach. Coach Banning built the program from scratch, spending the first two years working without seniors and competing in one of the most difficult leagues in the state at the time. Silver Creek turned the corner and made it to the “sweet 16” in 2005, finishing with a 19-6 record. The next year the team was conference champions in the Big Northern League (17 teams), made it to the “sweet 16”, and was City Champs.
Prior to Silver Creek, he was head coach for the girls team at Skyline HS from 1997-2000 and ended his time at Skyline with a conference championship in 2000. Banning began his high school coaching career as head coach at Niwot HS in 1987. During his six year tenure at Niwot, he won the state title in 1993 and was also voted Colorado Coach of the Year.
Coach Banning’s accomplishments include: “Coach of the Year” awards (State, Conference, County, and Area) 12 times; nine “Sweet 16” appearances, four “Great 8” appearances, two “Final Four” appearances, five conference championships and one state championship. He has also been chosen to coach in eight State All- Star games.
Bob Banning has been teaching in the St. Vrain Valley School District since 1981. He teaches science, specializing in biology. In 1992 he received the channel 4 “Teacher Who Makes a Difference” award. He is currently the science department head at Silver Creek.
He is married to Angie Banning, a teacher at Longmont Estates, and head swim coach at Fox Hill Country Club. They have two children. Kendall, who graduated from Silver Creek in 2006, and Lindsay, who graduated from Silver Creek in 2009. Kendall graduated Summa Cum Laude from Bethany College. He is currently attending National University to achieve his Doctor of Chiropratic degree.
