A History
Silver Birch Concerts was the brainchild of Christian Robinson and Alexandra Lee. They moved to Sudbury in 2004 to take positions in the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra and Sudbury Symphony Conservatory of Music. Both passionate chamber music advocates, they wanted to continue to perform chamber music in their new home city. In the beginning, the first four members of the Silver Birch String Quartet were made up of the core principal musicians in the SSO, and the series was under the "umbrella" of that organization. In August 2006 Silver Birch Concerts was incorporated as its own non-profit organization, separate from the auspices of the orchestra, and has since been its own entity. Today, Silver Birch Concerts boasts a healthy subscriber base, and an ever-expanding single-ticket audience of all ages. We are looking forward to a bright future as Silver Birch Concerts Inc, continuing to provide exciting high-calibre chamber music to the Greater City of Sudbury.
Silver Birch Concerts bases its performances out of the lovely St. Peter's United Church, 203 York Street. The acoustics of this intimate venue are both warm and clear, ideal for chamber music for the string quartet. Their beautiful baby grand piano has a sparkling sound, and has allowed us the pleasure of working with many guest pianits over the years. There is ample parking space, and the church is wheelchair-accessible. |
