2010 Skokie Indians 12U Travel All-stars

posted Oct 2, 2009 5:46 AM by Casey Koniarski   [ updated Oct 2, 2009 5:51 AM ]

Dear Parents,

The Skokie Indians are proud to announce the 2010 - 12 year old Travel All-Stars. The league has asked that we reserve two positions for spring 2010. This gives players an opportunity to improve their skills and allows parents and players not thinking about baseball this fall another opportunity to tryout (therefore no one has been eliminated at this point).

Instruction in Adult / Pediatric C.P.R., First aid and A.E.D. Offered

posted Sep 11, 2009 7:07 PM by Gary Cortez

Dear Skokie Indians Managers, and Coaches:

Please read below a message from Barry Albach with the Skokie Park District regarding a First Aid and CPR class that I think imperative everyone assuming a role with the Indians in a Manager and or Coach position should consider.

I am offering instruction in Adult / Pediatric C.P.R., First aid and A.E.D. (Automated External Defibrillator)  Class sizes are best when no more than 10 people at a time.  I can come to someone's house who would be willing to host.  As far as dates, whenever everyone is ready, I would be able to teach.  If weekends are best for everyone, it could be a weekend.  If weeknights are good,  I can teach then as well.  Typical  class times with 10 students run about 3.5 hours - 4hrs.  If you don't have a place where I can teach, I could probably get a room at one of our facilities at the park district.  Again, it is $40.00 per person.  All students receive books, dvd and certification card which is valid for 2 years before recertification is required.  Let me know if there is anything else you need.

The Skokie Indians have very little money to pay for this but would be willing to pick-up a portion of the $40.00 fee for this training. If you can afford the $40.00 please pay the fee. If not, we can work something out.

Please RSVP to Jim Guthrie at jimg@oosterbaanpainting.com by Sept. 25th and let me know the following:

1.    If you plan on attending.
2.    If need the financial assistance, and any dates that do not work for you.
3.    What days or dates are bad for you.

I look forward to hearing from everyone!

Go Indians!

Announcement - 2010 Skokie Indians Travel Team - 12 Year Olds

posted Aug 13, 2009 9:56 PM by Gary Cortez

Please be advised that player evaluation and tryouts for the 2010 - 12 year old Skokie Indians Travel Team will be held Saturday, August 15th 10am at Terminal Park and Saturday, August 29th 1PM at Central Park East. Players must attend at least one of the tryouts.

Please read the following information regarding this team and the selection process:
To be eligible to play must have played in the Indians 2009 House League regular season and have a birth date after 05/01/97.
Players selected to play on the team are required to play in the Indian Spring House League.
10 Players will be selected at this time and spots will be kept open until spring to allow players an opportunity to improve their skills and tryout for the 3 remaining spots.
Selection of players will be made by Skokie Indian officials, coaches and volunteers using a structured rating system that ranks players based on a number of factors. Parents of prospective players will not participate in the evaluation process.
If a player attends both tryouts, the highest score of the evaluator is used; however we cannot guarantee the evaluator will be the same.
In addition to participating in the North Shore Baseball League and in arranged games with other local teams, the team will participate in a number of weekend tournaments, and in August, the team will travel to Cooperstown, New York for a week-long season ending tournament. The Cooperstown tournament is discussed further, below.
We will continue to utilize our traditional Skokie Indians Travel Team uniforms.
The full cost of participation has not been determined pending selection of spring tournaments and amounts received from fundraising activities. However, the next section will provide an estimate and explanation of the cost of playing on this team.

Fees and CooperstownPlayers on this team are expected to travel in August to Cooperstown New York to play in a weeklong tournament. Players traveling to Cooperstown must be accompanied by an adult or guardian, which can be another team parent. For more information on this tournament, please go to: http://www.cooperstowndreamspark.com/.

The cost per player to Cooperstown is approximately $1000.00. Our Skokie Indian teams have historically been able to defray the cost of the Cooperstowntrip by half or more through donations, sponsorships and concessions. However there is no guarantee that this team will do the same and parents need to recognize this possible outcome. Also, the foregoing amount does not include travel to Cooperstown or those associated with families.

In addition to the fee for Cooperstown, the cost per player for the regular travel season, plus two tournaments is estimated to cost approximately $150.00. If a player needs to purchase a complete new uniform, the cost is approximately $145.00. The foregoing amount does not include player travel expenses to Cooperstown or non-player (family members) travel and lodging expenses..

If you intend to have your player participate in the evaluation, please reply via e-mail to Dave Weldon at weldondw@hotmail.com. Reply with your players name and the session's you plan to attend:

The Skokie Indians Fall League

Big-Leaguers dream of playing baseball in October. If you share that dream, all you have to do is sign up for our Fall League teams. Skokie Indians teams will play on Saturday mornings from early September through October against other North Shore teams at diamonds in Skokie, Evanston, and Northbrook. The Fall League is a relaxed recreational program with no scheduled practices, standing, or playoffs. This is a great opportunity to play a few more games of good quality baseball and a chance for players moving to a higher level of play next year to get some experience at that level. We will be fielding teams for 2009-10 3-rd and 4-th graders (AAA), 5-th and 6-th graders (Majors), as well as 7-th and 8-th graders (Pony).

Please contact Dave Weldon for questions.
