Dick's Sporting Goods 6 - Martin Nissan 5: The Lobos forced a second championship game against Martin Nissan by way of a dramatic, sixth-inning comeback. Trailing 5-3, the Lobos of Dick's Sporting Goods scratched across three runs in the sixth inning to sneak by Martin Nissan. In the double-elimination playoffs, Martin Nissan had made the championship bracket without a loss, while the Lobos had one loss. Therefore, for the Lobos to become champions, they have to beat MN twice. They took their first step Friday evening, but it wasn't easy. MN came out swinging the bats and playing good defense. Dillon "Cobra" Leopoldo shut down the Lobos' attack, pitching three strong innings. Dillon also had a two-bagger to pace MN's offense, along with Sam Bogan, who pumped out 2 doubles. Conor Murphy followed Dillon on the hill and continued the strong pitching outing. Corey Schmidt came on for MN to pitch the fifth and sixth innings, but those pesky Lobos put together enough hits to score three runs. For the Lobos, Robby Sonnier, Don Martin and Diego Acosta pitched, with Diego playing an important role in holding MN scoreless over the late innings to keep the Lobos in it. An excellent, exciting game. Catch the AAA Championship game between Martin Nissan and Dick's Sporting Goods on Monday, June 29 at Terminal Park. |
