Girls' Night Out

Girls' Night Out, poem by Signe Robertson, 2009

I'll forgive you
If you forgive me
Stop blaming you
And I'll stop blaming me
Let's put the blame
On the stupid boys
They're all out of town
It's girls' night out
And I want you to be mine
No, I won't hold you hostage
You will still be free
But if I let you run wild
Would you run home to me?
See, I won't keep you captive
Like a bird in a cage
No, I'll be the baby bird
Weak in your hands
I give myself to you
My heart, my body, my spirit
My soul
For you to experience
To love, kiss and hold
I held you too loosely
Made you feel second best
Then you ran away
And my heart was broken next
Now I want you back
And please don't run away
No, my darling Jack
This time I need you to stay
We've both made mistakes
They're all in the past
We are free now
Could we make it last?
The future is open
Like an unwritten book
No stress and no pressure
No force and no tears
I'll just say if you need me
I'll belong to only you
Because I need to be loved
And I know you do too
The boys are out of town
Now it's girls' night out
Now I'm yours - Baby, turn off the lights!
