Emily Spunaugle, Student Representative“April is the cruellest month,” tempting us away from those dank places of winter study to the budding trees and fresh air outdoors. Why, again, must jobs and classes take place indoors?
Howdy, Deltans, my name is Emily Spunaugle, and I’m the Student Representative for the Midwestern Region. Although originally from the Sunflower State (there isn’t an Oz joke I haven’t heard) I am currently attending school at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL. At Olivet, I am pursuing a major in English and collecting a gaggle of minors along the way—Political Science and Abbreviated Sleep, to name a couple. My meager 24 hour allowance is spent on work, a copious number of assignments, and in delaying a very certain death via grammar class. I’m somehow managing to juggle these expenditures of time fairly well, though, and have kept my grammatical fate at bay. In fact, crusading against dangling modifiers, my grammar seems to be improving... wait… I would like to send forth a thank-you to all contributors for your submissions for this newsletter, and encourage all chapters to consider writing an article for the fall newsletter. Somewhere between now and then, however, I have hope that a new opportunity for publishing will come into being—more on that as it comes! Have ideas? Questions? Comments? Rebuttals? “Failing to fetch me at first keep encouraged, Missing me one place search another, I stop somewhere waiting for you.” --and that place is sigmatd.mw@gmail.com Shea Hartmann Hodges, Associate Student RepresentativeTo the Grand Midwest,Hello! I am Shea Hartmann Hodges, your new Associate Student Representative (ASR) for the Midwestern Region. I attend Morningside College in Sioux City, IA. During the 2009-2010 school year, I have been President of the Gamma Beta Chapter. I have enjoyed this very much and can't wait to start my duties as ASR. Although I have lived in Sioux City for ten years, I am originally from Blecoe, IA. I am a non-traditional student, so my responsibilities also include being a wife and a mother of three boys. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be serving you all in the capacity of ASR and hope that next year will be one to remember. I encourage all of you to submit everything you can, especially for the 2011 International Convention. There is nothing more exciting than seeing your work recognized! Emily and I are looking forward to the coming year a great deal. As President of the Gamma Beta Chapter, I am also looking for suggestions for improvements in fundraising and service project ideas. Please feel free to email us anytime with any ideas, comments, quotes, or even suggestions for books to read. |
