Tracy O'Shields Mitchell (Chapter Advisor) 2009 Greek Advisor of the Year From: Born and raised in Raleigh, have lived in Wilson since 1993 with husband & son Ethan. Year Initiated: Spring 1994 Graduated: Winter 1997 Why did you choose to become an advisor? Unfortunately, I chose to focus on my social life more than my grades my first year in school and it took me some time to get my grades where they should have been all along. This prevented me from being able to be an officer for Sigma due to the grade requirements. After graduating, I was graciously given the chance to become an advisor in 1998 and have been able to give back to Sigma in that way ever since. Tri Sigma helps so many young ladies become better people and I wanted to be able to help others the way Tri Sigma helped me. Heather Baker (Education Advisor) From: Originally from Garner NC, now residing in Wilson NC with husband Jerry Year Initiated: Spring 1999 Graduated: Spring 2000 Bridget Cowan (Alumnae Relations Advisor) From: Raleigh, NC Year Initiated: Spring 2002 Graduated: Spring 2006 Linsday Jones (Membership Recruitment Advisor) From: Born & raised in Wilson, NC Year Initiated: Spring 2005 Graduated: Spring 2008 Carol Davis (Financial Advisor) From: Originally from Rocky Mount, NC. I knew from my
first day on campus that I wanted to be a Tri Sigma. I was lucky to live
on the 5th floor my freshman year so I grew to respect and love the
sisters before I was a member. Even if I did not live on the floor
before I was able to rush, I know I still would have wanted the Tri
Sigma's to call me their sister because of the awesome reputation they had on
campus. The friendship and special bonds they shared, their service to
RPM and the community and their genuine attitude is what drew me to the
sisters of Tri Sigma.
What do you like most about being an Advisor? Unlimited
babysitters! :) Being an advisor truly represents "we who receive much
must give much". We volunteer our personal time away from our families
and schedules b/c being a part of these girls lives is very rewarding.
Seeing each of them grow and mature as ladies and as Tri Sigma's makes
me very proud and makes me feel like I had a small part in that process.
I don't have a daughter of my own so these girls wanting me to be a
part of their life in this way makes me feel very special.
Why did you join Tri Sigma? I joined try Sigma for a lifetime of
sisterhood among a very diverse group of women.
Why did you choose to become an advisor? I wanted to become and advisor becuase of
the passion I have for Tri-Sigma and wanting to give back to the chapter
that I was apart of in college!
What do you like most about being an advisor? I love the
bonds of sisterhood that are never ending and meeting new sisters that
keep the chapter at Barton College moving forward! Why did you join Tri Sigma? I joined Tri Sigma because I felt like I was destined to join. I didn't
go to college thinking I was going to be in a sorority, but once I met
the girls I felt like this was my home away from home. I felt like this
was filling a void that I had since I started college. I also joined
because I wanted to help make a difference on campus and in life. I
wanted to become a better, well-rounded woman.
Why did you choose to become an advisor? I chose to become an advisor because I still wanted to be a part of
making a difference not only on campus but in other women's lives. What do
you like most about being an advisor? The best part about being an advisor is being able to lend a helping hand. Why did you join Tri Sigma? I joined Sigma because the sisterly bonds
were so apparent, and I wanted to be a part of that. I will take that
bond with me every minute of every day, for the rest of my life.
Why did you choose to become an advisor? I became an advisor as a way to give back
to the chapter that made me who I am today. I wanted to help guide each
young lady into womanhood, and know that I have assisted in that
transformation.
What do you like most about being an advisor? I love watching young ladies that
were once so shy and timid, step into shoes that help them blossom into
leaders. Why did you join Tri Sigma? I joined for the friendship and leadership
opportunities and because I believed in what Tri-Sigma stood for then
and now.
Why did you choose to become an advisor? I chose to volunteer as the Financial
Advisor to the Gamma Xi Chapter of Tri-Sigma because I wanted to "give
back" some of what I had received as a collegiate from 1985-1989.
What do you like most about being an advisor? What I like most
about being an advisor is getting to know the current collegiate members
of Tri-Sigma and to help guide them with my experience and friendship
that Tri-Sigma is for a lifetime not just 4 years in College. Why did you join Tri Sigma? I
wanted a family, a home away from home when I was in school. Who knew
at the time that it would last a lifetime??? It's the best decision I
ever made!
Why did you choose to become an advisor? I
missed being active with my Sisters and wanted to give back to the
chapter. Also, Tri-Sigma ritual is near and dear to my heart so I asked
to become the Ritual Advisor so that I can guide future generations of
Sigmas to appreciate and love the beauty and solemnity of our ritual. I love getting to know my young Sisters! Being able to connect with a younger generation helps keep me young. And I'm so proud to be a Sigma, a member of Gamma Xi chapter! I'd forgotten how meaningful that was until I came back. What do you like most about being an advisor? Why did you join Tri Sigma? I joined Tri Sigma because I have no other siblings and several individuals
that I was really good friends with during my years at Barton were
Sigmas. It was a true bond of sisterhood with this "special" group of
girls during my years at Barton.
Why did you choose to become an advisor? I chose my advisor position
because it has a lot to do with my everyday job. I want the girls to remember
it's not just an organization, it's a bond of friendships, sisterhood and
what you stand for. When you put on those letters you are representing a
group, yourself as an individual, and also your sisters. I wanted to
stay as active in Sigma as possible as an alumnae; that is the main
reason I chose to be an advisor.
