About Critique Groups

Non-Fiction Critique Meeting

The non-fiction critique group meets the third Thursday of each month at Jan Westmore's house in Nevada City from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30.

Each participant is encouraged to bring whatever he or she is working on for critiquing. It is helpful to bring 4-6 extra double-spaced copies so that everyone can read along, and make notes, as the author reads aloud. The group gives advice on grammar, structure and marketing, where appropriate.

We encourage published and new writers alike to join us at our work sessions. We always have a good time and learn from each others writing projects.

Please RSVP if you plan to attend by telephone to Jan at 530.265.0718 or by email. She'll be happy to give directions to her home.

Fiction Critique Meeting

The fiction group meets every other Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. We're diverse—all types of fiction are welcome. The nucleus of the group consists of suspense, children's, scif-fi, and romance writers.

Bring what you're working on as well as copies so everyone can follow along and make notes as you read your work out loud.

For more information or to RSVP, please contact Ron Cherry.

Open Reads

Look for two "Open Read" events held each year in the Community Room of Madelyn Helling Library in Nevada City.  Unlike the ongoing groups, these are standalone opportunities to have the first few pages of your writing read aloud to the assembled group for a chance to receive and give constructive criticism.
