Sharon B. Lewis
Hello and welcome to our newly updated website. SCDAA-Central Alabama Chapter, commonly known as The Sickle Cell Foundation, is proud to be able to continue to provide you with information to help you understand sickle cell trait and sickle cell disease. If you have sickle cell disease, we want you to better understand the disease so that you can make decisions about your life and your care. We also want you to learn about some great health strategies, eating strategies, pain management strategies and medications that can help treat your disease. As you know, sickle cell disease affects every aspect of a person's life. The Sickle Cell Foundation is available to assist familes with these challenges. Our organization wants to make sure you get help needed. We also provide referrals to programs and services available in our community, including prescription drug assistance. At the Sickle Cell Foundation we work to connect you with emotional support from others who have experienced the sickle cell disease journey. Our new website is part of our renewed effort to provide education resources at your finger tips on how to live with sickle cell disease and how it impacts you and your family.
We hope the information on our website is helpful. Please revisit our website regularly, and don't forget to join us on Facebook.
Best wishes,
Sharon B. Lewis, BS, MPHHA Executive Director The Sickle Cell Foundation SCDAA-Central Alabama Chapter
Sangart Raises $50M to Support Perfusion-Enhancing Treatment Nitric oxide does not appear to improve treatment of sickle cell pain attacks. This is according to a new report published in JAMA. Among patients with sickle cell disease, treatment of a vaso-occlusive crisis (characterised by episodes of severe pain) in the hospital with inhalation of nitric oxide gas for up to 3 days did not result in a shorter time to resolution of the pain, compared to patients who received placebo, according to a study in the 2 March issue of JAMA/Archives: JAMA.
