Chengdu is the capital city of Sichuan. Sichuan is at the eastern edge of the Qinghai and Tibet Plateau and is embraced by lofty mountains. Its eastern part is the famous Sichuan Basin, known as "the Kingdom of Paradise" in history because of its rich agriculture. 7% of its territory is flat, and the rest is hilly land and small hills. Yuli Township in Beichuan was flooded by the quake lake (22/5). An investigation by remote sensing shows that there are 34 quake lakes formed after the earthquake. 8 of them hold more than 3 million m3 water. The rapid raising water levels form a big threaten to people's lives.
