Welcome to the Supplemental Instruction (SI) website. SI is run under the Undergraduate Retention Programs through the College of Natural Sciences at Colorado State University. Academic Excellence Workshops are small study groups for traditionally difficult freshman level courses such as LIFE 102 and LIFE 103 (Biology).
Groups meet once per week for one and one-half hours. Sessions are lead by a trained leader who has taken the course and received an "A" or "B". The group leaders attend the course lecture so that each group is specific to the professor's curriculum. Students and leaders review course lecture, textbook readings, homework problems, and other material as it relates to the course. SI encourages good study habits and testing skills while providing a relaxed, small-group atmosphere for students. Currently, supplemental instruction is offered for the Key Academic Community students only, but will be open to all students if spaces in the study groups become available.
Testimony (Spring 2009):
Attending weekly SI sessions helped me earn an A in the LIFE 103 course! The SI instructors relayed the same information in the lectures to us in ways that catered to our different learning styles, where as the professors could not. I think that this is a great program and look forward to becoming a SI instructor in the future!
