Grading requirements for Intro Ceramics projects,
First marking period
Grading, due to the ongoing multi-task nature of the class, projects are due at the end of the marking period, however numerous times during the course critiques are held and grades will be entered shortly after. Homework will only be accepted at the start of class and should be word-processed. Students with computer/printer issues should present a note from home or E-mail them to me.
Tile- 25 points
1.Make a ceramic tile that is 6*6 and have even thickness from a ¼" to a 1/2".
2. Try various techniques to make a unified subject, such as carving, pressing and applying more clay.
3. Good craftsmanship will be paramount. Your name and class must be on the back of the tile.
4 Glaze the tile. Keep notes on what you did so that you can repeat your successes and not repeat the missteps.
Make a mug with personality, no size requirement. 100 points
1.You must apply a pulled handle.
2.Continue to improve your craftsmanship.
3 The mug must have a clear theme.
4. Your name must be on the bottom of mug.
5. Glaze the mug. A quality glaze job is expected, no misses, no glaze on the bottom.
Slab project, 100 points
Image as edge
Create a container, such as a vase, that has design elements on the surface that meld into the lip of the pot so that the lip is no longer a single line but a continuation of the image on the pot.

Potters wheel 25 points
1.Work on the wheel for 5 classes.
2. Work on the steps you saw in the demonstration.
3. Clean up your wheel.
4. Remove and care for any pots you are able to produce
5. You do not have to have any success but you must strive to improve.
Items that will have a negative effect on you success.
Failure to master clean up skills.
No name on your project
Cutout shapes /not using the low relief technique.
Drawing on the clay with thin tools such as compass or knives. Clay is 3d, drawing is not.

Second marking period
Coil Pot 100 points
Using the coil method make a pot that is at least 10’ tall and displays the use of the coils. This project is all about celerity of the chosen form.

A pot with a lid 100 points
Using the information presented in class, make a closed ceramic piece with a lid that will not slide off. This container will be well designed and should be able to serve as a functional object. The lid must not slide off.

Vessel 100 points
Make a ceremonial drinking object. This vessel will be used in ceremony. You will have to document how and why this is used. Along with the history of each design point you have included in object. You must turn in a word processed document along with this vessel.
Independent project. 200 points
Select something you want to make using clay. It can be one large item or numerous small ones. You will need to keep a log of what you're doing as well as times. This project must encompass any “extra” time you may encounter. This last marking period.
