MRI News!

  • 14 MRI Students Selected to Speak at FJAS!!!

    The following MRI students were selected to present their research in the state-wide high school competition at the Florida Junior Academy of Sciences Convention at the University of South Florida in Tampa on March 17th.   The students were selected from a pool of applicants from around the state based on the quality of their scientific research papers displaying each of their projects.

    Seniors: Amanda Holly, Garrett Moler, and Nathan Elsishans

    Juniors: Jackie Mogensen, Dylan Seeman, Luke Kosko, Shelby Hinds and Zelda Blowers (on behalf of her's and Courtney Dust's project)

    Sophomores:  Conor Shea and Robbie Heere

    Freshmen:  T.J. Howie, John Steber, Shelby Shea, and Caleb Van Beck

    Congratulations, and good luck in Bulls Country!

  • Amanda Holly Takes First Overall...and MRI Students Take 9 First Place Awards at Regional Science Fair!

    A BIG Congratulations is in order for MRI Senior Amanda Holly!  She won a share of the first overall prize at the Sarasota Regional Science and Engineering Fair.  With the win, she will get an all-expense paid trip to Pittsburgh, PA this May to compete in the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair.  She sure has come far since her Freshman year!!!

    At the Regional Fair, MaST Research students were also awarded 9 out of 13 first place awards in their respective categories in a much expanded field.  Congratulations to the following first place winners:

    Jackie Mogensen - Biochemistry

    Hakeem Rhodes - Chemistry

    Zelda Blowers & Courtney Dust - Earth Science

    Dylan Seeman - Engineering

    Amanda Holly - Environmental Science

    Casey McManus - Medicine and Health

    Donovan Keene - Zoology

    Congrats to all who competed!  Adjudication results are coming for all participants soon.

1In the fall of 1995, the School of Excellence in Math, Science, and Technology (MaST) was established at SHS (Sarasota High School). The MaST Research Institute operates as a school-within-a-school and is intended to provide qualified students with a rigorous enriched curriculum to prepare them for entry into Math, Science, Medical or Engineering related careers following high school.

The program offers a common academic core coupled with mentor-supervised research, internships, career shadowing, and participation in summer institutes. The MaST Research Institute offers students a competitive edge when applying to university degree programs.
