Kindergarten News:

It is hard to believe it is already the end of May and the school year will be over soon!  The Kindergarten kids have been learning lots of great things and  are having a wonderful time!  June is almost here and the children will be attending their Move Up Day on June 8th!

During Religion, we learned about Mary, the Blessed Mother of Jesus.  We always remember to thank God for our families and all the wonderful gifts we have with the prayers that we learned.   We especially remembered Mary and our Mothers during the month of May.

For Math, we focused on numbers from one to one hundred!  While many children are great at rote, or memorized counting, we examined the forming and comparison of sets, the sequencing of numbers (before, between and after) and different ways to combine numbers with addition and subtraction.  In addition to all this, our little Mathematicians explored patterns and continued to practice shape recognition.

Please work on First in Math at home on the Computer.  Children can also go to www.oxford-sadlier.com/math , click on Student and K to find math problems and activities for Kindergarten that they can also complete.  We are doing it at school and it would be beneficial for your child to continue practicing this Math work at home too!  Everyone has been doing very well with our Math work on the computer!

Our Reading continues with great stories, songs and poems.  We learned many comprehension skills and different types of stories.  Our young readers are learning that some stories are informational, some are make-believe or fantasy, some are folk tales and some are realistic fiction.  This class loves a good story.  The best homework you can do with your child is to read to him or her every day!  This helps them to learn fleuncy and the flow of stories.

We wrote upper and lower case letters, words and sentences!  We have been writing stories to go with the pictures we drew.  We wrote an informational story about elephants.  We also wrote about why we liked the stories we read and drew pictures of our favorite part!

We love Kindergarten!

We enjoyed doing our final video-conference with the Kindergarten class at Lady of Good Counsel in Moorestown, NJ.  We sang a song and told them what what learned this year!

Dear Parents,
Our Kindergarten kids were very busy this year!  They are a wonderful group of students.  I enjoyed working with this class! I am especially grateful to you for sending your child to St. Helena School!  Thank you for sharing this special time in your child's life with me!
                Sincerely,
