2. Data entry

• Enter edit mode by clicking on the "Edit shot list" line in the command drawer, or use the keyboard shortcut Command/D.

• Paste a block of Excel cells directly into ShotDriver using the Edit menu>Paste special command. This command expects the three basic columns: shot number, camera, and description.

• Use consecutive numbers for shots including the hundreds digits, even if you only plan to call out the last two digits. For shot numbers you may use decimal or alphabetic suffixes (i.e. 24.2, 24b or 24-b), but no alphabetic prefixes.

• Alternate shots, where two cameras are directed to cover the same shot, are entered with two numbers in the camera field separated by a comma. The shot appears in the camera view windows for both cameras.

• Shots where "ISO" or "NOTE" is used in the shot number column to give a note to a single camera are acceptable, because shot numbers which begin with letters equate to a shot number of zero. Any entry with a shot number of zero is sent immediately after a "real" shot is taken, and the current shot number is not advanced.

For example, at the top of a show file you can have a sequence of eight entries, all with shot zero, giving preset descriptions for each camera. All of these are sent immediately when the first one in the sequence is taken.

• GENERAL NOTES to be sent to all cameras: enter an asterisk (*) in the camera column. Notes or messages sent this way will usually have a shot number of zero as well.

• Highlight individual cameras for printing using the Highlight menu. The highlight colors may be assigned in the Preferences window.

• Add a still image to an entry by pasting a picture from the clipboard, while in Edit mode. Make sure no fields are selected for text entry when you use the paste command. Images are saved automatically, are placed in a folder named "Images" in the same folder as the ShotDriver script file. See below: "More about still images."

• Use the "Preferred view" tab in Preferences to show and hide certain columns. You can also click on the dividing lines between columns on the list header, and drag the column widths to your desired locations. These functions allow you to set your preferred view of the list.

• Use the File menu commands "Create new entries from switcher signals" or "Create new entries from number keys" to create a new shot list on the fly. Time and shot duration, and the selected camera are recorded with each new entry. To select camera numbers greater than ten, use the top row of keys: Q, W, E, R, T and Y.

When new entries are being created from switcher signals, you may enter shot descriptions as they happen. However, text entry will be interrupted when a new entry is created.

• Use the File menu command "Notate shot for review" or its keyboard equivalent: Command/K to add a notation with the current time in the note column of the current shot.

•The Note column is intended for the Director's or the AD's notes, and notes here are not sent over the network.

More about still images:

Notice that when you click on a still image, the picture will disappear and you will see the image's file name. Pictures are not store within the shot list file, but are kept separately in an Images folder which is in the same folder as the shot list.

Still images are not sent to camera client applications. Stills are not sent over the network in any way. Please note that still image file names are not adjusted when you use the Renumber command.
