in Mallow, Co Cork, Ireland, processed beet into sugar for the first time in 1934 and , sadly, for the last time in 2006. The plant is now closed and will be demolished in 2008.
Some of the main process equipment such a Boilers, Turbines, Diffusers, Filters and Vacuum Pans are currently being removed and will travel to countries as far afield as Israel and the Ukraine. The remaining instrumentation, control valves and related equipment have been removed and are available for sale. Some details and photographs are shown below.
