POINTS ALONG OUR JOURNEY


 From Marilyn's Journal -

1.     The Red Cross: What they doing  - The Red Cross is the agency partnering with the Haitian Red Cross in  Crisis Management education for critical relief efforts in the upcoming epidemics of diseases like Typhoid (from contaminated water), and Malaria and Dengue Fever, which are mosquito-borne diseases. They  have also been in Haiti working with the Haitian Red Cross on HIV awareness and prevention. At home, the Red Cross is working with families and people from Haiti arriving in the US and helping them to acclimate to the area through social, financial and psychological support.

 

2.     Convoy of Hope – working with the Mission of Hope outside of Port au Prince- we visited Mission of Hope and their Haiti One program which has a franchise with the Haitian government to bring containers into the country.

3.     Haiti One – distributes goods thru Mission of Hope to over 300 misions, schools and organizations outside of Port Au Prince

 

4.     The Haitian Baptist Church – has a franchise with the Haitian government to bring containers for distribution in Haiti. They gave us guidelines for bringing in goods:

These are the needs of the Haitian People at this time:

a.   tents, tarps, water, building materials – wood for framing buildings, nails and corrugated,3-gauge tin

b.     all materials must be inventoried and documented

6.     PLANNING OUR FUTURE PROJECTS – 

a.     Orphanage – Foyer Notre Dame De Fatima:                                  one woman – Elizabeth caring for 32 children in the midst of rubble

c.      Children’s books

d.     Art supplies – paints, brushes, drawing pads and canvas
