Shivaram is currently the Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Key Pair Technologies, a upcoming Network Security Startup.
Shivaram continues to be a Software Architect and Product Strategy consultant mainly in the areas of Strong Authentication, XML and Secure Web Services. Consulting services are provided via TrustStix. Practice areas include, but, not limited to technical architecture, business process, product strategy and management generally related to Software Development (Java & C), Web Services, XML, and Security. His expertise is in the areas of Security and Cryptography. Currently, he is an invited expert in the XML Security Specifications Maintenance Working Group @ W3C
Some of Shivaram's clients include companies like Netscaler (Citrix), Gandiva, Sun Microsystems, MessageGate, and many start-ups. Major responsibilities included requirements gathering by talking to customers and partners, design reviews, developing product development processes, Technical Architecture and even Software Development.
Previously, Shivaram was a Senior Technical Program Manager working on Windows Security @ Microsoft (April 2005 to October 2007). His focus areas included Core Cryptography, Client-Server Protocol Specifications, FIPS Compliance, Smart Card Infrastructure for Windows and related Standards [blog].
Shivaram represented Microsoft in ANSI/INCITS B10 Working Group and W3C, a Standards Organization. He has been a contributor for XML Encryption and Key Management (co-chair and co-editor) Specifications. Shivaram is also the Chairman of the PC/SC Standards Organization
Before Microsoft, Shivaram was a Software Architect at Sun Microsystems's Java Software Division (March 1997 to July 2004). He has worked on many projects in the areas of Cryptography and Security for the Java Card system and emerging technologies for Securing Web Services, Payment Systems and Digital Rights Management. He has also worked in similar capacities on products such as Java Message Queue, Java Web Server, Java Electronic Commerce Framework and others. Additionally, he collaborated to identify and recommend directions to the management for Standards participation, developer capture, and software products supporting secure Web Services.
Prior to joining Sun, Shivaram worked briefly for a network security start-up, Simple Access, as a Software Engineer. Before that he co-founded (1993) Towers' International (now Towers Infotech Pvt. Ltd.) in Bangalore, India where he was the Managing Partner till 1995.
Shivaram has co-authored/reviewed articles and subject matters published in various online and print media. He has also been a speaker at various technical and business events.
Shivaram holds a Bachelors degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Bangalore University and a Masters in Computer Science from Oklahoma City University. |
