My Erasmus Experience
Berlin (August/September 2008)
In 2007, I decided that it was time that I moved on, and so I started searching for courses I could apply for. That's when I found out about the Erasmus Mundus. I managed to put everything together before the application deadline, december 2007, and a few months later, I was among the proud recipients of a scholarship to enter the European Master of Science, International Health Degree Program. The program is offered in 6 different tracks. I've been accepted in track 6. That's why I'm taking the preparatory course in Berlin, and I will continue in London, Edinburgh, and finaly, Copenhagen.
It's my second day here in Berlin, and I've already been to enough places to start this page. I took this picture from my room where I'll be staying the next 3 weeks.
It's in one of the many buildings in a large area.
Here's the main street.
It's a 10 minute walk from Schlachtensee station.
and the beautiful woods and lake.
From the studentendorf, I can take the bus to Wannsee station, which is again next to a very beautiful lake where people come sailing on weekends.
From Wannsee station, I can take the train to go to the TropEd institute, which is situated in a hospital in Westend called the DRK Kliniken Berlin. Here's the view from the street.
And this is where you find yourself when you step inside.
The entrance building from inside:
Building or Hause #10 is the Institue of Tropical Medicine:
Another place I've been to so far, is the Potsdamer Platz in the city center.
There are pieces of the old wall, and people are taking pictures with them.
And this is probably the largest umbrella I've ever seen!
After doing some site seeing during the weekend, it was time to attend class, starting with an intesive German course with some of the other students.
and class in progress. The lady by the window is Ulrike, our German language instructor.
Everyone has a camera, and you never know who's taking a photo of you! This one was taken by Chilmabe, my friend from Zambia.

The next weekend, was all rainy, and staying home, and then a pretty intense course on cliamte change, during the week. That's why it wasn't until the next weekend that I was able to visit some magnificent places.
Schloss Charlottenburg, the largest palace in Berlin.
