Henna

Henna is a natural harmless hair conditioner and dyer. Henna provides two types of benefit to the hair simultaneously. Henna will condition and color the hair. As a conditioner, henna strengthens the hair, is an anti-fungal and reduces the occurrence of dandruff, conditions the scalp, slightly loosens the curl pattern, helps to detangle and make hair more manageable and provides a natural and healthy sheen and shine to hair.

YouShould Know

Many people believe "greener" henna is better henna. This is just a marketing trick. In some places green dye and green dyed sand are tossed into henna to give it more "eye appeal" . This will make a problem instead of giving good condition to hair.

If you want to know if your henna is dyed green to make it look good, mix henna with lemon juice and put it between two sheets of glass and leave it there for 15 minutes or so.  If the exporter added green dye, you'll be able to see the bright green dots appear in the henna.  They may be large enough for you to see without a magnifying glass.

Henna can  never make your hair lighter - only add pigment to your existing color. There is no chance for you to be fiery red with henna if your starting color is a dark brown. It will make your white or grey hair to red …..brownish.

Pure henna will always provide red, and only red pigment. There is no such thing as black, golden or brown henna - but by adding other ingredients to the mix you can push the color towards more red, more brown or more golden - please don't think that your black or brown hair can turn red with henna - it's simply not possible!

Citrus juices- lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit or vinegar are good examples of acidic liquids. Either use these straight or mix them with water or other neutral liquids. It's important that the liquid is acidic, as the color in the henna leaves will release better if mixed with something acidic than with something neutral.

If you find a henna you love, buy plenty and store it!  If you put your henna in an airtight, light-proof container in your freezer, it'll stay good for years!  If you leave your henna in the light, in an opened box, or in a hot place, it will lose its dye potency!
