The Taos girls had a nice day out with thier dad doing a comunity service project at the Simi Valley Waste Managment landfill. The Waste Management being a responsible Green company has various progams to help protect the envoirment. One of the projects is is to be recertified by a group called the Wildlife Habitat Council. Part of that recertification is to have education and outreach programs for the kids. In the landfill property they have a Pollinator Garden and have a program to enhance it by creating habitats for pollinators (butterflies, bees, bats, etc). Our Girls were able to get the cordless drills and paint and were busy as bees building bee house. They also got to see how WM keeps the seagulls out of the landfill with a demonstration of the hawks and falcons used to keep the birds out. We learned a lot about our trash and all the work that is done by the WM employees to keep Simi and our envoirment clean. |
