The Literacy Team at the Sheldon School supports students and teachers in literacy instruction. We have three teachers in our literacy team. Mrs. Reighley has been at the school for twenty seven years. She is our Title I Reading Teacher and our Reading Recovery Teacher. Mrs. Reighley does Reading Recovery instruction for students in grade 1 who need extra support in reading. These students are seen by her one-on-one. She also sees students from grades 2-4 who need support in literacy. Mrs. Reighley won the UVM Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award in 2005. We are really lucky to have her here in Sheldon! Ms. Childress is our Middle School Reading Teacher. She came to us in 2006 from Chicago. She received her teaching license through the Teach for America program. She provides reading support to students from grades 5-8 in small groups or one-on-one. She also supports teachers in literacy instruction in the classroom by modeling, co-teaching and coaching. In addition, she coaches Odyssey of the Mind and softball. Ms. Childress is a great asset to our school! This is my (Mrs. Patel) sixth year at the Sheldon School. I obtained my specialization in Reading Education at Boston University. My main role is supporting teachers in literacy instruction. I enjoy working with teachers in the classroom as a co-teacher or literacy coach. I plan teacher training for the school during in-service. I also work with the other literacy leaders in the Franklin Northwest Supervisory Union to plan district in-services, local assessments and other literacy-related issues.
