Hi! This page will update you on my career as a teacher and some personal information.
I am a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, born and raised. I love everything about Pittsburgh, from the sports teams to the tunnels and bridges. However, what I do not like at all, is the weather. So, after I graduated from Indiana University of PA in 2001, I moved to the beautiful state of North Carolina.
Family:
I am married to a man named Jon Shaw. On Memorial Day, May 25th, 2009, I gave birth to a baby girl, Zoe Elizabeth Shaw. She was born with a full head of thick dark hair. Jon and I are smitten!
Here we are on our honeymoon in Mexico!
AND
This is Zoe Elizabeth right after she was born.
Teaching experience:
Teaching in PA is close to impossible, so if I wanted a job, I had to move to the south. I taught 6th grade Language Arts in Chatham County, NC in my first year. It was a difficult year. I missed my family and found teaching older children difficult since I was young myself. My homesickness took me closer to home. I moved to Maryland and taught 4th grade in Prince George's County, outside of Washington, DC. My next two years were spent teaching in Fairfax County, VA. I taught 2nd grade and learned my passion was definitely in the classroom. When finances got tough (DC is SO expensive!), I decided to come back to Raleigh. I worked at Hunter Elementary teaching 1st and 2nd grade for three years. It was a wonderful experience, but I was ready for a change, yet again. I came to work at Sycamore Creek Elementary School last year. I love children and can't wait to tackle my 9th year as an educator.
