SKF Nationals

April 16th 2011 Shaw karate members head down to Haden Hill Leisure Centre, Cradley Heath for the SKF National Championships 2011.  We were back at our original home Haden Hill, but it required an extra early start for the competitors and spectators, meeting at 5:45am at the club for the journey down.  It was good to be back at Haden Hill bringing some special memories for some older members of previous competitions and weekend courses with the great Master Kimura.

For more than half of our 18 competitors this was their first tournament and all were very nervous, but the day went very well.  All competitors gave their best, but for some of those first timers, nerves played a big part.  Many of the fighters who had been to the previous tournament improved which was impressive.

Special congratulations go to our medalists and winners, Usamah Mir 1st Place, Bethanie Jardine 2nd Place, Aaron Jordan 1st Place, Andrew Hall 3rd Place.  Some other fighters only just missed out on medal placing which made this a good competition for Shaw Karate.

We would like to thank our competitors for volunteering to enter the tournament, Luke Walster, Usamah Mir, Mohammed Uhayd, Bethanie Jardine, Jawad Khawaja, Mohammed Owais, Aaron Walster, Leon Whittaker, Brad Jordan, Hammad Asghar, Alex Nealon, Aaron Jordan, Pauline Jardine, Andy Hall, Jackie Jordan, Mark Mills, Richard Thornton and Ben Walster.

The club would also like to thank the spectators who helped throughout the day getting the competitors ready for fighting and looking after everyone, it felt like we had a big family on hand to help and cheer us on.  Shaw Karate club spectators and competitors were some of the loudest there.

Hopefully at the next tournament later this year we will have even more competitors and more spectators.  All students will be training hard for the next tournament, now we have members who have seen and participated in a few competitions and know what to expect we hope to gain more medals.
