Vision & Philosophy

I believe that a school library media center and the media specialist must help provide support and collaboration in the form of reading, writing and information literacy as well as the access to information of all types.  This is essential for the future success of all individuals and groups.  Our world is quickly adding multiple forms of information by the second, and we must learn to acquire this new knowledge and have access to it in order to thrive as a society.  The library media center and media specialist will promote, assist, and provide access to students, teachers, administrators, and the community in the endeavor of enjoying, understanding, and interpreting the vast amounts of information in our society today.

Today’s learners must acquire the skills to seek and obtain knowledge and problem-solve using many modes of information, and the media specialist and center are for this purpose.  The media specialist should instruct and collaborate with teachers and students on all aspects of information literacy as well as assist with the selection and use of materials for curriculum and leisure reading and writing. The media specialist should keep abreast on the latest innovations and trends by reviewing a variety of professional journals as well as actively participate in professional organizations. Students should learn through example that all of us are lifelong learners.

The media specialist and program should promote leisure reading and lifelong learning skills by creating multiple opportunities for staff development and reading programs that allow students to interact with teachers, staff and community members through literacy. I plan to create an open relationship with the public library as well as the University of Georgia community that is nearby allowing for even more opportunities of learning and literacy. I hope to assist with all aspects of creating prepared productive members of our society through literacy promotion events and daily readers advisory, curriculum through collaboration, and technology through instruction and use.
