Certification Reflection

Program Preparation for the Future

While I came to this program in an unconventional manner since I already had a job as a media specialist before I even began my first class, I have found this a wonderful experience in preparing me to be a professional school library media specialist.  I was able to come to understand the AASL standards as I used connected them to my practice.  I learned so much about ethics, selection, collaboration, technology integration, and many, many other facets of the field from experienced professors and from my various field experiences in middle, elementary and high schools.  I was also able to learn to serve all of my various patrons including students from various socioeconomic groups, multicultural backgrounds, and students with disabilities, teachers and the community in a fair and balanced manner.

Future Professional Plans

I am currently working as the media specialist and technology coordinator at Clarke Middle School in Athens, GA.  I have learned so much in this certification program and in the process of obtaining my masters degree in instructional technology. I hope to spend many years at CMS applying the AASL standards and knowledge I have gained from this program.  I plan to continue to stay up to date by reading journals, attending conferences, and keeping memberships to professional organizations such as AASL.  In the future I would like to continue my education with a specialist degree in the field of instructional technology.
