What Do You Think?

My latest article at Adios Barbie, "Music's New Bold and Bountiful" has generated some controversy among my friends and readers. In my article I spotlighted two plus-sized singers, Adele and Beth Ditto.
I've received a wide array of reactions that have ranged from celebration to out-and-out disgust. The latter response is confined to Beth Ditto and her nude magazine covers, first on Britain's New Musical Express (NME) and the latest, another UK publication, Love. Personally, I think the photos are tastefully done and she looks fabulous.

At the moment, this website does not offer the option of leaving comments directly on this page, but please send me an email and I will post them. Looking forward to hearing your take!

"Never mind people who don't get it, I mean, I am into health but if you can be big and healthy there's nothing wrong with that." http://www.dbdigital.tv Vancouver, Canada

"I have to be honest that I think this is just an extreme to the other side.  Skinny is bad, but so is fat.  I like healthy!"

"I think that Ditto teaches us that you can be successful, beautiful, gay and not have a body that complies with the typical female model. It's a relief for those of us who aren't perfect, who don't look like Barbie. Ditto gives us hope that each one of us can find our own style with the body we have. She shows us something that society is not accustomed to: being sincere.

"
I just want to say that, although I'm all for women being comfortable in their own skin and showing it, would an anorexic woman be lauded in the same way if she appeared on magazine covers?  To me, it's the opposite side of the same coin."

"Oh, I love her!!!!!!!! I think Ditto has the coolest and most natural attitude. She is so beautiful, very sexy. But the most important thing about her personality is her attitude. I think that she deserves to be famous so I am happy for her. And she knows what she wants, she is very secure with herself...and she does what she wants in her life. Most of people live their lives looking for what they want to do...like me. =)"

"I think people should not be judged on weight and everyone should be given the same chance to succeed, regardless of how they look. However, being healthy should be a consideration. Even just for yourself! Healthy for your body shape is what we should all strive for."
