Shannon Group

Exploratory Caving in Ireland's North-West

Welcome to the website of the Shannon Group, a bunch of cavers based (mostly) in Ireland and dedicated (more or less) to caving, mainly in the northern counties of Ireland - Antrim, Cavan, Fermanagh, Leitrim, Monaghan, and Sligo.

The origins of the group lie in the desire of a few keen cavers to re-open the Shannon Cave underneath counties Fermanagh and Cavan, forming a digging group in 2005, which eventually succeeded in digging open a passage from Polltullyard.

Further digs and climbs deeper in the Shannon system followed its rebirth, coupled with a complete survey of the cave, while other digging projects in the Cuilcagh region were undertaken in pursuit of the fabled Trans-Cuilcagh Master Cave.

Underground exploration and the discovery of new caves continues to motivate the group, and if you are interested in caving in Ireland do get in touch with us and we will be more than happy to bring you underground – our only requirement is that you are keen!

Shannon Group Trips

2nd Saturday OF EVERY MONTH - new regular digs for Shannon Club!

As agreed unanimously during the extraordinary meeting of the club social sub-committee convened at SUICRO 2019.

We'll aim to have a trip - even if very small - every 2nd Saturday. That's not to say we won't have other ad-hoc digs at any other time on top of that. See you there!
