WELCOME TO SHAKESPEARE AND POPULAR MUSIC

WEBSITE GOAL:

The Shakespeare and Popular Music website is a collaborative research project that explores and documents  Shakespeare's work in relation to popular music and song. Thus far an underdeveloped area of research about the Bard, this project takes its starting point from two methodological considerations: Popular Music in Shakespeare and Shakespeare in Popular Music.

Intended for Shakespearean researchers, instructors, students, and people with a general general interest in the topic this website includes learning, teaching, multimedia, and research resources to address three main areas:

PEDAGOGICAL TOOLS:

As well as wishing to facilitate further research on Shakespeare and Popular Music, this website is also designed to promote popular music as a pedagogical tool when studying Shakespeare. Popular music offers accessible, interesting, and pedagogically useful entry points for students beginning their study of Shakespeare's works.

This website, then, offers multiple formal lesson plans for educators to adapt to their classrooms as appropriate. These lesson plans are based on the Ontario Ministry of Education Curriculum Guidelines and include lesson plans for students at the junior and intermediate levels of study.
