Mascoma Sailing Club

2012 Sailing Season

Spring is here, ice out was March 23 (earliest ever?) so it’s definitely time to start thinking about sailing! Club activities will begin in late April, and we hope that you will be joining us again this year. We look forward to another great season, with lots of activities planned – see our 2012 Club schedule for all the details.

Club Opening: WORK DAY #1 is scheduled for Saturday, April 28 (rain date April 29) for which we have an ambitious list of projects. Club sloops will be launched then or on Saturday May 5.

Sailing: Starting in late May, our very popular Sloop Group will be sailing regularly on Thursday evenings – with plans to picnic afterwards or maybe reconvene at a local restaurant. There will be regular Laser racing on Sunday afternoons starting at 2 pm (and Tuesday evenings in July & August – 6 pm at Dartmouth!). MSC will host the Mascoma Spring Laser Regatta on Sunday June 17, and sloop regattas will be held in late July and August. Again this year we’re planning to run Saturday afternoon “clinics”, ranging from rigging clinics early in the season (for members wanting to use our Club Lasers and sloops) to on-the-water drills and informal practice races, and maybe even a guest speaker or two!

Social Activities: Informal 'pot luck' BBQs will be held on Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day, and in conjunction with the sloop regattas. On Memorial Day we’ll hold a short Annual Meeting with the BBQ and Open House. Picnics are welcome anytime.

Moorings: Limited club moorings are available for club members’ boats on a first come, first serve basis at our Main Street location. Every member who plans to moor a boat must contact Joe Gasparik (603-632-7664) before May 31. After this date we cannot guarantee a spot.

Location: The Shaker Bridge reconstruction project is still underway, so we continue to have limited use of the Shaker Bridge Landing for launching Lasers and other small boats on dollies (evenings & weekends). In addition we are fortunate to have limited use of Joe & Cathy Gasparik’s Main Street property. Small boat storage is available there (Lasers on dollies, kayaks/canoes on rack). Parking will be along Main St. on the Enfield side of the rail trail underpass.
