Mission Statement

It has always seemed the burning goal of mankind to struggle against immutable death. Perhaps it was this simple, courageous and ultimately failed quest that birthed every god into the human consciousness. The deep-seated need to avoid the inevitability of death and the obscurity of entropy, has driven man ever on the path to immortality.

So important is the question: What becomes of us after death? While many modern readers may find themselves skeptical, cynical, even disdainful of faith in more than what we are slated by our mortality, one must put such faith into context in order to see it fairly and with accorded respect.

The same desperate need and fear drives science ever on to heights that indeed have rivaled the gods themselves. The same dire want to avoid death. How keenly the civilized and savvy feel that scythe bear upon them and strive with their dollars and sweat and blood to dodge its felling blow. Indeed, it can be said that a great deal of faith is put into science. Therefor, think not so little of your ancestors, for not so much has changed in the ways of man.

Motivated by the desire to have consequence beyond the short term of a life, people have drawn, etched, painted, burned, forged and sculpted every material imaginable into forms that commemorate their existence, and the ideals of what they may be. Hand in hand with death dances the beauty of art, the dreams of philosophy and the rigors of logic. This eternal relationship is at the core of man's creativity, and thus the divinity of perfection is born from the ugliness of death. Indeed, it is from the void of abyss that springs the light of hope, and so long as man dies, it shall be so.

To bear witness to this beautiful tragedy is to see the whole of humanity woven as a splendid tapestry, each part interlocked with this common macabre thread. While an observer may favor their own coloring or pattern, this shared destiny is truly inseparable. The appreciation and preservation of the art describing this human condition is to embrace the whole of humanity, and it is with this purpose that the Shadow Magi Group exists.
