SOL III Award

Citation  -  For promoting environmental awareness and/or being avidly involved in environmental issues

Criteria   -  Members and units who help make people aware about keeping our planet clean and to make members and the public aware; or who keeps abreast of environmental issues, receive this award. This is awarded once, annually

SCPO Larry Moss–USS Charleston - For being an avid participants for the last 5 years in the chapters Adopt a Highway Program.

SP/1 Denise Wolff–USS Charleston - For being an avid participants for the last 5 years in the chapters Adopt a Highway program.

Commodore Victor Swindell–USS Charleston - For being an avid participants for the last 5 years in the chapters Adopt a HighwayProgram.

Dina Barron–USS Charleston - For being an avid participants for the last 5 years in the chapters Adopt a Highway Program.

Commander Barbara Slater–USS Charleston - For being an avid participants for the last 5 years in the chapters Adopt a Highway Program.

Captain Edith Padgett–USS Charleston - For being an avid participants for the last 5 years in the chapters Adopt a Highway Program.

Captain Thomas B. Heffner–USS Gallifrey - for all the environemental issues and services he has committed himself and the GALLIFREY to over the year of 2003. His dedication and hard work to not only support the issues and organizations who work for savin' our world and her life upon it, but for promotin' the issues, the organizations, and becomin' involved physically himself and for motivatin' the rest of his crew  to do what needs to be done in this area.Captain Heffner is involved in  several environmental issues, like "Green Earth" and "Save the Whales", but has gone out to work with these organizations in both areas of support and public awareness. That is, not countin' his efforts to actually make a difference all by himself, motivatin' the crew of the GALLIFREY to join him. His work in local environmental issues, like Community Restroation and Trash Pick-up has lead the way to improvin' the local neighborhood and motivatin' the rest of his crew to get involved in our own communities. Captain Ron Novak–USS Renegade -  he has  operated this country's first Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Center in Akron (Summit County), Ohio. He has been a member of that team for 8 years. This team has won awards and citations from the State of Ohio for its innovativeness, and for being on the frontier of the recycling industry. He has also worked for a company that encourages the recycling of hazardous materials into reusable products and has given lectures in previous years on hazardous materials. He supports efforts by individuals to recycle any and all materials including newspapers, plastic, batteries, and old chemicals by encouraging them to contact the local Solid Waste Management authority.(210403)

Captain James J. Cecil–USS Commonwealth - started up the USS Commonwealth's Inkjet, Laser printer and cell phone recycling project. Thus rendering the amount of waste that going into the Madison County land fill.(210506)

Commander Dan Johnson - USS Bonaventure - The starting of and maintaining of the USS Bonaventure's recycling program.(210905.16)

Commodore Glenda Blanks - USS Heimdal NCC-1793 - Recycles chapter's aluminum collection. (210905.16)

Admiral Sherry Anne Newell - USS Renegade NCC- 2547- Recycling aluminum

Morgan Harper - USS Columbus -  5 years old. Helps with the collection of aluminum cans and plastic bottles for recycling. (211005.01)

USS Heimdal NCC-1793 - All chapter members donate used ink jet cartridges to go to Amherst Humane Society Shelter. Shelter receives $2.00 per cartridge they turn in for recycling. That money goes towards the care of the animals in the shelter. (211005.01)

 USS Ohio - Recycling aluminum cans, newspapers and magazines. Cutting plastic shopping bags into strips and taking them to a local church where someone crocheted towels on to them, making hanging towels (211005.14)

Ensign Lucille Skipper - USS Starleague - Arranging a mission to Phinizy Swamp and the Augusta Canal, therby promoting environmental awareness and the importance of keeping our waterways clean (211005.14)

USS Heimdal -  The Heimdal is enviornmentally conscious. The chapter has a tremendous recycling project. Aluminum recycling brings in funds that sponsor one of our adopted charities for a full year.Heimdal also recycles used ink jet printer cartridges. Cartridges are donated to the Amherst Humane Society Shelter. They make $2 per cartridge & those funds go directly to the care of the animals in the shelter.Used books, both paperback & hardback are donated to the local regional cancer center for patients to read while having cancer treatments.
