After he retired from the Army, he joined the Tennessee National Guard and served in Operation Desert Storm. When the Iraq war started, Ken again enlited and served two tours in Operation Desert Scorpion with the Tennessee National Guard in Iraq. Ken served on the 278th Combat team as the gunner on a Hummvee during his tours and saw a considerable amount of action. During his duty, he injured his back and was disabled preventing him from returning for a third tour of duty in Afghanastan.
