About Us

In the winter of 2005, we were selected to participate in Whedco's project STEP. We were asked by our teachers, Nicole and Ebony to create an advocacy project that would better our lives and our community. We read a book titled "Hey Kids Buy this Book," and were inspired to tackle the issue of teen pregnacy in our community.
Our project evolved into one that was about us getting comprehensive sex education in our school, PS/MS 218. We realized that in a society where the media is often our only means of sex education, we should have the opportunity to obtain acurate and impartial information.
With time and dedication we were able to create presentations and a mission statement, find information, get the supprot of various community members through a petition, and speak to our local health representatives. We also received a lot of media attention, mainly from The Daily News, Ny Post, and NY1. Our work is also praised on The Planned Parenthood and ACLU websites. |
