酒井一彦

琉球大学唯一の潜ってサンゴの研究ができる教員として、瀬底研究施設を中心に研究教育活動に従事している。サンゴ礁環境が地域的要因で悪化し、サンゴが減少している沖縄島、サンゴ礁環境が良好だが、大発生したオニヒトデによってサンゴが減少した慶良間列島、サンゴ礁環境がよく、サンゴが非常によい状態を保っている西表島などを研究場所として、場所にとらわれないサンゴの野外研究を展開している。また分子マーカーを用いたサンゴの集団遺伝学、海洋酸性化がサンゴの生活史段階に及ぼす影響に関する水槽実験など、サンゴのより包括的な理解を目指し、研究室を運営している。今後は地球温暖化の進行も視野に入れ、緯度傾斜に沿ったサンゴ群集構造やサンゴ個体群の遺伝的構造の変異を、国内外の共同研究として展開する予定である。琉球のサンゴ礁におけるサンゴの野外研究は、当研究室でその真髄を見ることができる。 サンゴの生態学、集団遺伝学、保全生物学に興味のある院生を募集している。
