unseen voices
a film archive and live music creative learning project
One train is the hope for a new life... another train is leading to death. Unseen Voices is a contemporary silent digital film made by a group of music students in London using archive film footage and photographs as part of a creative learning project for the Brent Holocaust Memorial Day.
| A Powerful and very good experience, I felt inspired when I met the Holocaust survivor and having a live performance to show all the work that we had put in to the project was extremely rewarding! Pupil project participant What a very inspiring project and I am happy that The Anne Frank Trust UK could contribute to the project in the little way we did. It was very evident that the young people involved have truly benefitted from being a part of this valuable creative process. My hope is that the educational DVD you produced can now be used to inspire other young people to get actively involved in these types of positive activities taking place in their communities Anne Frank Trust UK Sergio uses practical solutions that engage people with cultural heritage and history in original and innovative ways. Unseen Voices is a perfect example and it almost makes you want to be a student again to participate and enjoy working in such a unique and inspirational educational environment. This model of participatory creative work will be a good example to other businesses and organizations willing to explore and innovate in their customer relationships and community involvement. The live performance with the participation of the Brent Junior Choir took place at Brent Holocaust Memorial Day, January 2008. THE PROJECTAs part of ‘Unseen Voices’ students visited the Imperial War Museum, and also had an educational talk through the Anne Frank Trust. The whole project is being recorded and made into a DVD which formed an educational pack that has been sent to Brent’s 100 schools. It is hoped that the documentary process will not only provide an important resource but will get young people to think about the experiences of World War II conflicts and ethnic violence Unseen Voices also aims to teach the students human rights, bridge the gaps between cultures and generations and enable them to reflect on the present and how to create a future with improved community cohesion.THE DVD Produced by Big Bang Lab has been structured into four short documentaries following this year's Holocaust Memorial Day theme 'imagine, remember, reflect and react'. Teachers are encouraged to focus on different aspects of the project as a learning resource package. Optional extras include useful resources such as links to other archives, as well as still images. From happy times before the war to the reconstruction of a new life after surviving the Holocaust, the audience is exposed to live original music and moving images to complete the unimaginable emotional journey contact: Sergio López Figueroa Director Big Bang Lab NEW WEBSITE UNDER DEVELOPMENT |
