Founder MembersThe founder members of the Sensor Web Alliance are the Meraka Institute of the CSIR in South Africa and the Institute for Geoinformatics at the University of Münster in Germany. Participating members so far are 52North.org and the Georesources Institute of Mississippi State University. In time more organisations throughout the world will join the Alliance to make it truly global. The Sensor Web Alliance is therefore an umbrella organisation whose function is to build and maintain a worldwide collaboration platform which will integrate the many sources of sensor data. Its technical goal is to implement a web-based architecture to support sensor networking and interoperability and produce prototypes. Current MembersA list of all members can be found here. Open Source PhilosophyThe intention is to make all software code and design documents open source. This should promote the Sensor Web concept and encourage collaboration. Making software available as open source should speed up development and would also assist in software debugging and enhancement. |
